RWE Grimsby plant
Work carried out at RWE Grimsby as part of an ongoing framework agreement (RWE AG is a German multinational energy company headquartered in Essen. It generates and trades electricity in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States. The company is the world’s number two in offshore wind power and Europe’s third largest in renewable energy).
Replacement of cable at Grimsby transformer
33/11Kv 25MVA transformer Neutral had been removed and required replacing from the transformer neutral box to the NER. The approximate distance is 20M and the cable size is 300mm2. The cable required glanding and terminating at both ends and the cable containment renewed, being fixed to the base of the compound. A sample of the original cable can be seen in the below picture .
Additionally to the above cable, a green and yellow earth cable of 180mm has also been installed running from the rear earth point to the body of the NER.
Note:
NERs, sometimes called Neutral Grounding Resistors, are used in an AC distribution networks to limit transient overvoltage’s that flow through the neutral point of a transformer or generator to a safe value during a fault event.
Following installation the install was fully tested, including the ductor readings ,before being put into service.
